Off to the Gorge...

Sarah and I are leaving now to go camp at "The Pit" with Steve and Hillary. We're gonna wake up bright and early and climb in the Owens River Gorge tomorrow. I'll post pictures when I get back. Sarah hasn't come on a climbing or camping trip in a while, so I'm definitely excited. Plus, she can be our camera woman.

The other reason I'm excited is that I haven't climbed with Steve S. in the Gorge since our first climbing trip together over a year and a half ago.

Wish me luck.

Your entries are really amazing, I definitely am intrigued by your friends and all the experiences you guys seem to be having on these incredible trips. I've been rock climbing for about 4 years now and hopefully one day I will be able to experience some of the adventures your going through. Good luck on all your endeavors in the future! Awesome pics too!

Once I decided on the types of things I wanted to do, and realized I couldn't get there on my own, I started putting myself in situations where I'd meet the right people who could help me get where I was going. At first that was just introducing myself to as many climbers as I could. Then I started going regularly to a climbing gym where I could meet people. Later I went to work for REI, which turned out to be far less fruitfull than I'd hoped. Finally, I moved to Mammoth and got a job at a shop that hired climbers and mountaineers. That has proved the most fruitfull. Climbing, of all types, is a group effort. You need others to learn from and gain experience with. You form bonds with those you climb with that are different from any other. I still have a long way to go, but I'm satisfied in the knowledge that I'm on the right path.
