Half Here

I wrote this poem a couple years ago. I just found it again and decided I'd post it.

8-10-04 Yellowstone National Park

I'm half here.
half gone.
The day is half over
the night is all that remains.

I search the darkness
with flashes of memory
It does not bring back the day.
It only reminds me of it.

As moments are lost to memories of the past
They are lost to the present
passed over
before they had a chance to be

I feel this loss as well.
I submit to it in repeating hope
But it does not bring back the day.

It only reminds me of it.
re-enforcing my humanity
so that it too will not be lost.
Lost to the night that remains.
